Remember the old time when your parents scolded you for playing games? And it would get worse when you told them that your main reason for addicting in the game was to represent the country to compete in cyber olympic. OK, time has changed, and I have seen many people (pro gamers) today in Suntec, lifting the name of “Gaming” to a new horizon.

Yes, The World Cyber Games (WCG) which brings along the games from countries has its Asian Championship held here in Suntec Convention Hall, Singapore. And I had spent a few hours there this afternoon to witness the first WCG in my life, hehe… I am not a hard core gamer myself, but just for some leisure in Defense of the Ancients (DotA). Of course, I did play Counter Strike and Star Craft back in university life, but not now 😐

Back to the scene. Here’s the main entrance which brings you to the battle arena:

Not so bad, castle feel. But you won’t see any candle when you enter the castle… Instead, some kids are playing with the free-for-you-to-try PC/Console – DotA and Finish the Fight 3 (which will be released in September).

Samsung as the main sponsor has their booth on electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, MP3 players and bla bla bla up with eye-catching models.

Dont flame me, I’ve tried to make it clear with the limited lighting…

A question arise when I took a tour around the hall – will the sponsor sell out the “used” LCD or CPU sets? From my rough calculation, there were around 300 (?) sets inside the tournament zone, which was left unattended now because this was already the final day of the championship. I think all the PCs were occupied during the preliminary rounds to accomodate the tight schedule for all gamers. Anyway, I don’t think I will buy that as well because I don’t need it at the moment, unless they are offering like 50% discount, haha… day-dreaming ~

Then, another question arise… which has brought a big impact on me. What if, a bull bangs on a beetle? This shouldn’t happen elsewhere, and you could only find it here in the battle arena:

That’s the answer, the bull will stick on the beetle.

When I looked at the stage, something struck my mind and I have thought of another type of vehicle used by the old time hero, Ben-Hur.

“Pick me! Pick me!” I could hear him shouting…

2:00pm, Dead or Alive 4 Final commenced. China’s lovereign defeated Singapore’s tetra in a very close game. The champion could only be decided on the very last round of the match-up. And, I got the videos for all the 5 games, but too bad… facing problem to convert *.mov file to other formats, ergh ~ Oh, here’s the photo of the champion. Accidentally met him surrounded by the reporters when I was making a phone call outside the hall.

“This is my first playing in competiton” He said.

And then, we have FIFA and Guitar Hero II Finals before my favourite DotA Final. Ermm… that will be between Malaysia and China:

And this was how the stage look like during the final:

Negarakuku, ops… they didn’t sing it before the game. But “Jalur Gemilang” was displayed in front of the team seating.

And the game started when both teams were ready. Malaysians were at upper hand when their kills were ahead of the Chinese by 2~4 in early game. However, Chinese team managed to pull back with several successful backstabbings. Game flow was pretty slow as both teams were aiming to drag it to late game (around 1 hour mark). Anyway, Chinese team snatched back the advantage after a number of massive team battles which saw the Chinese’s major damage dealer growing stronger and stronger. And the game ended around 1 hour (not so sure?) when Chinese team heroes marched with all the mega creeps towards Malaysian’s Throne. After all, Good Game to both teams! And congrats to CyberTime I who brought back a piece of medal for Malaysia in this Cyber Olympic with the witness of the crowds:

After the game, I was so unlucky to be caught by S.W.A.T because of my misbehavior of capturing photos during the game 🙁

Ops, not really being caught; but to be captured by camera itself. What’s more… The guy who’s famous for this quote:

“Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose so let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.”

“Be careful ah, the dagger is sharp!” V reminded me.

And, you have to believe in this. The hall is so cold that…

Chicken Little had to keep itself warm with that artificial flame.

Not to forget, got myself some goodies and official merchandise:

See you in next WCG ~ Wish all the gamers good luck in the pursuit of medals in Seattle’s Grand Final this October.

*Movie clips will be updated soon.
